Why this exists

I am Aubrey Perin. I served in the U.S. Air Force, and I have spent more hours than I would like trying to find rules that should not have been hard to find. This resource puts the source, the plain-language explanation, and the responsible office in the same place, because no one should have to pay someone just to translate a form.

My name is on this page and nowhere else on the site, which is deliberate. This started as a section of my personal site and grew past it. A page about filing a claim should be about the claim, not about the person who wrote it — but you are entitled to know who that is and what they want from you, which is the rest of this page. (Older links to aubreyperin.com/veterans/... still work; they redirect here.)

What it is

An independent educational project. It is not operated, approved, or endorsed by the Department of Veterans Affairs.

It explains public rules, links the governing authority, and points at qualified help. It does not review individual records, recommend a filing lane for a particular veteran, prepare or submit claims, act as anyone's representative, or give personal legal or medical advice. Reading it creates no professional relationship of any kind.

It cannot take your records

There is no account, no upload, no intake form, and no contact form anywhere on this site. That is architectural, not a policy I am asking you to trust: the site is a set of static pages with nothing behind them, so there is no mechanism that could receive a decision letter or a medical file.

Please do not send records, claim numbers, or Social Security numbers to me by any route. Use VA, your clinician, or your accredited representative — people who can actually act on them.

My credentials, stated plainly

I am not an attorney and I am not a VA-accredited representative. I am a law student and a veteran. Neither of those authorises me to represent anyone before VA, and personal experience with a claim is not a professional qualification. If you need the law applied to your circumstances, use VA's accreditation directory or the help page.

Money

Nothing here is sold. There is no paid claim assistance, no sponsorship, no affiliate arrangement, and no referral fee. If that ever changes, this page changes first — before the arrangement starts, not after.

Mistakes

I will correct material errors and show when a page was last reviewed. Personal experience, where it appears, is labeled as experience rather than as a rule governing anyone else's claim. How sources and corrections work.
